KiloPets Privacy Policy
Effective date: 2 October 2026
This policy explains what information KiloPets collects, why, who sees it, how long we keep it, and your rights. Health and fitness information has its own extra policy too: the Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy.
1. Who we are
KiloPets is made and run by Nathan Nitzel, an individual based in Nevada, USA. He is responsible for your information (the "controller" in some laws).
Contact: [email protected]
EU representative: to be appointed
UK representative: to be appointed
2. The short version
- We collect what the game needs to work: your account, your KiloPets and progress, and, if you allow it, your steps, workouts, heart rate and approximate location.
- We don't sell your information. We don't show ads. We don't use analytics or tracking tools that follow you around the internet. We never use health information for marketing.
- Other players can see your display name, avatar, level, rankings, crew and crew chat messages.
- You can delete your account and data in the app at any time.
3. What we collect
Account. Your email address, and your sign-in method (password, one-time email link, Google or Apple). If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your email address and an account ID from them.
Profile. Your display name, avatar, and your birth month and year, which we use to check your age for age-limited features and the age rules in section 12.
Location (only if you give or allow it).
- An approximate area: postal code, city, region and country, which you type in or let the app take from your phone. We use it for local and national leaderboards.
- If you are 18+ and turn on Random Encounters: a wide area of about 5 km where you were recently, used only to match you with other players, and deleted within days.
- Workout routes (the GPS line of your walk or run) stay on your phone. They are never uploaded to us.
Health and fitness (only if you allow it). From Apple Health, Google Health Connect, your phone or your watch: daily steps, active minutes, workouts (type, time, distance, calories, average heart rate), heart-rate readings and minutes in heart-rate zones, and which app or device the data came from. We also calculate scores from them, like your weekly Effort League score. See the Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy for more.
Gameplay. Your KiloPets, items, currencies, battles and battle replays, rankings, crews, achievements, tutorial progress and settings.
Use of the app. Which days you opened the app, counted from the day you signed up, and when you first battled. We use it only to see how new players get on, as counts of players, never one person. The days are kept for 180 days, the date of your first battle until you delete your account. Neither is ever shared or sold.
Chat.
- Crew chat messages you send. Only the latest 50 messages in each crew are kept.
- KiloPet chat: your messages to your KiloPet and its replies. Older messages are condensed into a short summary so your KiloPet remembers you, and the originals are deleted.
Device and notifications. A push notification token for your device (from Apple or Google, through Expo), your notification choices, your time zone, and your app language.
Fair play records. If your activity looks impossible (for example, far more steps than a person could walk), we keep a record to protect the game, for 90 days. Records of battles that failed our checks are kept for 30 days.
Reports and blocks. If you report a player, a crew message or a KiloPet reply, we keep who reported it, the reason and any note you add, and a copy of what was reported, so we can review it after the original is gone. The player you report is not told who reported them. If you block a player, we keep that choice so we can hide their messages from you.
Messages to support. Whatever you send to [email protected].
4. How we use it
- To run the game: your account, progress, battles, rewards and rankings.
- To turn your real activity into in-game rewards, leagues and achievements.
- To show local, national and world leaderboards.
- To run crews and chat, filter bad language, and keep players safe.
- To send notifications you've turned on.
- To prevent cheating and keep the game fair.
- To see how new players get on, in counts of players (which days the app was opened, and when the first battle was).
- To answer your messages and fix problems.
- To meet legal obligations.
5. Who sees or receives your information
Other players can see your display name, avatar, level, KiloPets on your team, rankings and scores on leaderboards (including Effort League activity scores), your crew, and the crew chat messages you send. On local leaderboards they can see which area board you are on, but never your exact location.
Service providers who run parts of the app for us, under contracts that limit what they can do with your data:
| Provider | What they do | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Hosts our database, sign-in and server code | USA |
| Expo | Delivers push notifications | USA |
| Apple, Google | Sign-in (if you choose it), push notifications, health platforms, app stores | USA and worldwide |
| OpenRouter, which passes each request to an AI hosting company we choose (currently DeepInfra, running DeepSeek's open models) | Writes KiloPet chat replies, and translates crew chat on request | USA. We don't allow these requests to be processed in China |
For legal reasons, if the law requires it or to protect someone's safety.
If KiloPets is sold or transferred, your information may go to the new owner, who must follow this policy.
We never sell your information or share it for advertising.
6. Computer-controlled players and AI
Some players, crew members and crews are **controlled by the game, not by real people**. They don't post in crew chat. When you ask for a crew chat message to be translated, the translation is made by AI and marked "Translated by AI". KiloPet chat is also AI. Please don't share private information in any chat.
7. International transfers
We are based in the USA and our main servers are in the USA. If you live elsewhere, your information is transferred to the USA. Where the law requires it, we protect these transfers with legal safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
8. How long we keep it
| Information | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Account, profile, progress | Until you delete your account |
| Steps, workouts, heart-rate minutes | Until you delete your account |
| Crew chat | The latest 50 messages per crew |
| KiloPet chat | Condensed into a summary over time; deleted with your account |
| Random Encounters area | A few days |
| Fair play records | 90 days |
| Failed battle checks | 30 days |
| Which days you opened the app, and your first battle | 180 days (the first battle: until you delete your account) |
| Reports (and the copy of what was reported) | Until reviewed, then kept as a record; when either player deletes their account, their name is removed from it |
| Blocks | Until you unblock, or either account is deleted |
| Workout routes | Never uploaded; stay on your phone |
When you delete your account, we delete your information within 30 days, except where the law requires us to keep something.
9. Security
Your data is protected by sign-in, encryption in transit, and database rules that stop players reading each other's private information. No system is perfect. If we learn of a breach that affects you, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
10. Your choices
- Health and location: you can stop sharing them at any time in your phone's settings (Apple Health, Health Connect, Location). The app keeps working, with fewer rewards.
- Notifications: turn each kind on or off in Menu, then Settings.
- Random Encounters: off unless you turn it on.
- Delete your account: Menu, then Profile, then Delete Account.
- Get a copy of your data, or correct it: email [email protected].
11. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to **access, correct, delete, or get a copy of your information, to object to or limit** how we use it, and to withdraw consent at any time. Email [email protected]. We will answer within the time the law sets (usually 30 days, and 45 days in some US states). We won't treat you worse for using your rights. If you are unhappy with our answer, you can complain to your local data protection authority.
12. Children and minimum ages
KiloPets is not for children under 13. **The minimum age is 13, or higher where the law sets a higher age** for agreeing to the use of your personal information yourself:
| Where you live | Minimum age |
|---|---|
| USA, United Kingdom, Canada (outside Quebec), Belgium, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore | 13 |
| Quebec, Spain, Italy, Austria, South Korea, and other places with a 14 rule | 14 |
| France | 15 |
| Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and other EEA countries without a lower rule | 16 |
| Japan, Switzerland, Mexico and other countries with no fixed rule | 16 |
Random Encounters is 18+ everywhere. If we learn that someone below the minimum age has an account, we delete it. Parents who think their child has an account can email [email protected].
13. Extra information for your region
